Beyond the rainbow: Arts, culture and food are served in a pot of gold here
People come to Loring Park for many reasons. The area has its fair share of unique restaurants and cafes, and it’s a place where the vibrant Minneapolis artistic community is quite evident, for example in the wildly popular Loring Park Art Festival. But locals know that one thing they can always find at Loring Park is LGBTQ+ events, both year-round and during the annual Twin Cities Pride Festival, one of the largest in the country. “If Minneapolis had designated neighborhoods, this would be the ‘Gayborhood,’” says Sam Turner, co-owner of four neighborhood businesses, including Nicollet Diner and Roxy’s Cabaret. LGBTQ-owned small businesses dot the neighborhood, many hosting community parties and events. In short, Loring Park residents enjoy a front-row seat to the full spectrum of cultural diversity that makes up Minneapolis.

Nature lovers fly free in this relaxing outdoor, colorful and welcoming oasis
Thanks to Loring Park's central location, residents can walk to downtown Minneapolis attractions and experience off-Broadway shows in one of the historic theaters along Hennepin Avenue. They can also sit on their high-rise balconies and watch fireworks and parades, or simply sip their favorite beverage as the sun shifts to the changing time. And then there’s the outdoor element. “Minnesota is known as the City by Nature, and the Loring Park neighborhood reflects that very well,” says Kevin Kurtt, public relations and communications manager at Meet Minneapolis. The neighborhood’s namesake green space, Loring Park, hosts some of the city's most popular community events around its beautiful pond. Shaded walking trails weave their way around its gardens, playground, tennis courts, fishing pier, dog park and the dandelion-shaped Berger Fountain. The Irene Hixon Whitney Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that connects Loring Park with the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, where tourists like to take selfies by the Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture.

This is where Minneapolitans come to play
Major local events include Holidazzle, a wintertime celebration of holiday lights, fireworks and crafts. The Loring Park Art Festival is an annual visual arts market, where visitors browse local art for sale and sample everything from ice cream to kabobs, thanks to an impressive lineup of street food vendors. The Twin Cities Pride Festival is also held every summer in the park, with live music and over 400 vendors. The summertime event is celebrated by about 400,000 people annually and takes place over two days. It's considered the largest free celebration of its kind. The Minneapolis Convention Center also is located in Loring Park, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors each year for events like the Auto Show to sports competitions, conferences and even national events like the 2022 NCAA Women’s Final Four. Kurtt remembers the games well. He walked a cart with the trophy through Loring Park, stopping to pose it at several neighborhood landmarks.

Breakfast specials, Pad Thai, Pho and more
Loring Park is home to Minneapolis’ only 24-hour restaurant: The Nicollet Diner. With an extensive all-day breakfast menu and popular milkshakes, it has cemented itself as one of Minneapolis’ top diner destinations. And the wildly popular Roxy’s Cabaret, in the same blue building as the Nicollet, features a bar menu and activities or shows seven days a week. Popular cabaret events include the Beyonce Drag Brunch, Dolly Days and Comedy Nights. In the same building is On the Rox, a patio restaurant with craft cocktails. Meanwhile, for food that comes with a little less entertainment, the Lotus Restaurant is a family-owned Vietnamese destination particularly popular for its pho and Pad Thai. And Mother Cluckers Pizza, also co-owned by Turner, serves up a wide array of pies, with happy hour specials, darts and arcade games.
The Nicollet Diner serves classic Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner dishes.

Single-family houses are scarce, but condominiums and high-rises are plentiful
While Loring Park boasts a dynamic present, its past whispers through its architecture. The neighborhood is primarily a mid-rise haven, with a mix of historic brownstones and modern apartment towers. While there are a few single-family homes; Turner says they are considered mansions, and the owners are not looking to sell the properties. Even so, Turner says property taxes on those properties are some of the highest in the state. The historic apartment buildings offer a unique character, with vintage details like ornate brickwork and wrought-iron railings. Home prices can range from $140,000 for a small condominium to $699,000 for a high-rise dwelling.

Everything from upscale, expensive dining in the downtown area, to tiny Eat Street dives. Lots of awesome non-american food. Plenty of fast-food options if you have to concern for your health or dignity. Great farmers market every Thursday in the summer.
