Morris Park
Suburban Neighborhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Hennepin County 55417
Bungalows and two-story homes with Craftsman details
Single-family homes here were mostly built between the 1920s and 1960s, and rest on wide streets lined with sidewalks dotted with streetlights. Tall mature oak and pine trees tower over minimally adorned grassy lawns. Buyers will predominantly find charming bungalows, cottages and ranch-style homes between the low $200,000s to the mid-$400,000s. Some houses have finished basements or Craftsman-inspired details like stucco siding and wood paneling. Many of these homes have expanded from their original shape, giving each house a unique character. There are also some newer contemporary two-story builds in this neighborhood topping $500,000. Buyers should note that with Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport and the Twin Cities Air Force Base just outside the neighborhood, the peaceful vibe here is regularly interrupted by the sound of planes.Regionally acclaimed parks and green spaces
Lovers of outdoor recreation have many options in and around Morris Park. A regional destination is Minnehaha Regional Park, where visitors flock year-round to see water roaring over the 53-foot Minnehaha Falls or view it frozen in time during the winter. In the park’s Longfellow Gardens, locals go for a run along its paved trails or socialize at the large off-leash dog park. Another big destination is Lake Nokomis. Morris Park residents are just a few miles from the bicycle pathways and fishing piers lining the lake. The more popular public beach may be on the other side of the lake, but locals can still splash, swim and launch kayaks from the east side. The community park named after Morris Park is a convenient spot for residents to sign up for recreation center classes or meet friends at the playground. It has a popular skatepark and a wading pool.Learn career-based skills at Roosevelt High School
Children can attend Lake Nokomis Wenonah Elementary School and then Sanford Middle School. Both receive B grades from Niche. From there, students can move on to Roosevelt High School with a B-minus grade. Students there can enroll in a Spanish dual language program or the Career and Technical Education Center. The center offers skill-based courses in the construction, healthcare and automotive industries. An alternative for students is Cyber Village Academy, a K through Grade 12 charter school within the neighborhood that offers both on-campus and entirely online instruction.Getting around Morris Park and Nokomis East
Smooth sidewalks make it easy to walk around the neighborhood and traffic is calm enough for cyclists, but with most destinations more than a mile away, many residents utilize private transportation. Metro Transit bus stops line 34th Avenue and 56th Street and connects riders to the Minnehaha light rail station. Downtown Minneapolis is about a 10-mile drive up Interstate 35W and Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport is right outside the neighborhood.A local bike shop and a handful of eateries
Restaurants and a few shops are sprinkled along 34th and 54th Streets. Cycling enthusiasts head to Watt Cycleworks for service or new parts. Berry Sweet Kitchen is a no-frills diner serving freshly baked pastries and bread while Vegan East Bakery draws in people from across the metro for its vegan treats. Cups of coffee with a cause are poured at Rick's Coffee Bar, where all of the proceeds support veterans. For dinner, Grande Sunrise Seafood and Mexican serves traditional Mexican dishes in its simple, yet festive dining room or out on the patio. A big bonus of living here is being about 5 miles from the Mall of America. Residents can spend entire weekends browsing the more than 500 stores. A range of familiar brands is complemented by 50 restaurants, an indoor theme park, an aquarium and a busy calendar of year-round events. For grocery shopping, the closest neighborhood grocer is Oxendale's Market. Residents also go to the Cub in Minnehaha, about a 2-mile drive, and the nearest Target, a 3-mile drive.
