Windom residents are close to dining, shopping, lakes and top schools

Windom feels suburban, but residents are close to much of what southwest Minneapolis has to offer. Nicollet Avenue’s commercial district runs through the neighborhood, and there are casual and upscale retailers at nearby Edina malls. You can quickly get from the community’s older homes to both Lake Nokomis and the city’s Chain of Lakes. Students are served by a highly rated school district, and commuting downtown is convenient on Interstate 35W.

What homebuyers often pay for Tudor-style homes and bungalows

Many of Windom's homes were built between the 1920s and the 1950s, including Tudor-style houses, ramblers, colonial-style homes and Craftsman-style bungalows. Hardwood floors, coved ceilings and wood-burning fireplaces are common throughout. Prices can range from the upper $200,000s to the upper $600,000s. There are a handful of duplexes that typically sell in the mid-$400,000s. Windom tends to be less expensive than nearby neighborhoods like Kenny and Diamond Lake, but more expensive than the city of Richfield to the south. About half of all residents are renters, who often live in apartments.

There's dining along Nicollet Avenue and shopping in Edina

The neighborhood has a well-established dining scene along Nicollet Avenue. You can find a range of options here, including Orale Mexican Eats, which blends traditional flavors with popular street foods. The Hyderabad Indian Grill is known for its authentic dishes like biryani, and The Patty Wagon is a throwback diner with burgers and shakes. The back end of a red pickup truck hangs over the entrance of Tailgate Sports Cafe, which has served the community since 2001. Groceries can be picked up at Cub or at the nearby Kowalski’s Market. Around 3 miles away in Edina, the Southdale Center mall is home to department stores like Macy’s, and the Galleria mall has more upscale brands.

I have lived in this neighborhood for my entire life and have never had a reason to view it as unsafe or as a bad place to live. Everyone knows their neighbors and the block parties we have every year in August are a great way to reconnect with long-time neighbors and meet people who may have just moved in. There isn't a whole lot of diversity and it is very much a quiet place for families, but despite that, it is great.
