North Redondo Beach
A neighborhood in four parts
Homes in North Redondo Beach resemble those found in neighboring beachside communities, minus the beachfront palaces. The neighborhood is divided into four basic residential areas. The TRW Tract in the northeastern corner, Golden Hills on the west side and El Nido in the southeast corner are all relatively small sectors with distinct housing options. They surround a larger central area dominated by townhouses built two or three to a lot. “The TRW Tract, that’s all single-family homes,” says Realtor Keith Kyle of Vista Sotheby’s International Realty. “The rest of the neighborhood is a mix of apartments, single-family homes and a lot of townhouses. There are options for everybody.” Golden Hills, which borders the coastal neighborhoods of South Redondo, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach, features multilevel homes built close together. “We affectionately call them the tall and skinnys,” says Kyle. “You’re relatively close to the beach without paying waterfront prices.” Outside Golden Hills, single-family homes come in a variety of styles and sizes. Large modern-style and Spanish-influenced homes share the street with smaller traditional homes, most offering private driveways and ample yard space in a traditional neighborhood setting. Most homes in North Redondo Beach sell for between $1 million and $2.5 million.Highly-rated schools from kindergarten through high school
North Redondo Beach is home to five highly rated elementary schools and a middle school under the direction of the Redondo Beach Unified School District. Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Madison and Birney elementaries and Adams Middle School all have A ratings on Niche. Redondo Union High also has an A rating and boasts a California State Seal of Biliteracy for its Spanish-language dual immersion pathway.South Bay Galleria shopping
North Redondo Beach has more going for it than just great schools. It also features extensive shopping and dining options. The expansive South Bay Galleria mall on the east side of the neighborhood is home to both Sprouts and Ralphs supermarkets, along with the local movie theater and an array of department stores and boutiques. The neighborhood's major thoroughfares, Artesia Boulevard and Ripley Avenue, are home to various local stores, like Dave’s Olde Book Shop, and highly rated restaurants. Seafood aficionados who don’t feel like braving the crowds at beachside restaurants can stop by the always-popular BlueSalt Fish Grill. Those looking for a bit of variety can try the authentic Indian flavors at Banana Leaf or the hearty Brazilian fare of Panela’s.Anderson Park and nearby beaches
When locals want to get outside but don’t feel like driving to the beach, they can stop by one of the neighborhood's many green spaces. Anderson Park includes tennis courts and a playground. “I’ve probably been to eight different kids' birthday parties at Anderson Park,” says Mangine. “It has a fantastic kids play area, and it’s really a center of the community.” Dominguez Park is home to Redondo Beach Little League and a dog park. Aviation Park is a public athletic complex with a large gymnasium, multipurpose field and track. The park shares a parking lot with the sizable Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. On top of all of that, the beaches — Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo — are just a few minutes from about anywhere in the neighborhood.Redondo Pier events
While few events are held in North Redondo Beach itself, the nearby beachside communities host events and festivals throughout the year. Many events, including the Redondo Beach Concert summer concert series, and the annual Kite Festival, center around Redondo Pier, just southwest of North Redondo Beach.Easy access to I-405
North Redondo Beach's location alongside Interstate 405 is more of a selling point than nonlocals might guess. Getting to and from the interstate during rush hour can create a much longer commute for those living in more coastal neighborhoods, as traffic clogs up local arterial roads. This is much less of a problem for North Redondo Beach residents, many of whom live within just a few blocks of the 405 on-ramps on Inglewood or Rosencrans avenues. The neighborhood is also home to the Redondo Beach Light Rail Station, the last stop on the Metro K Line, which runs north to Los Angeles International Airport, where it intersects with the C Line. The rail makes it easy for residents to avoid parking at LAX, which is just 6 miles from the neighborhood.
