Carillon
Historic buildings surrounded forested suburbs
Carillon's suburbs are bounded by Park Drive and the Powhite Parkway. Streets and sidewalks shaded by oak and poplar trees provide scenic routes residents can take to their neighbors and nearby parks. Most homes in Carillon were built in the early to mid-20th century, and there are a number of historic residences to be found. Marburg is the oldest surviving structure in the community. It was built in 1889 and features characteristics of Queen Anne and Folk Victorian designs. Carillon's forested streets are lined with a range of remodeled Italianate houses, Cape Cods, Dutch Colonials, ranch-style houses and homes that incorporate a mix of Classical and Gothic Revival characteristics. Prices in Carillon vary depending on size and location. A modest ranch-style home in the neighborhood's northern section can cost around $350,000. In comparison, larger homes and homes near the James River can cost anywhere from $900,000 to $1.2 million.Memorial bell-tower in the center of Richmond's largest green space
The Carillon tower looms 240 feet above the neighborhood, surrounded by open grass fields and lush forests. The Georgian-Revival style tower was built in 1932 to commemorate the Virginians lost to World War I. The tower is also a giant musical instrument, containing 53 fixed bronze bells of different sizes played by a "carillonneur" on occasions like Veterans Day, Memorial Day and July 4th. "There's over 200 acres of green space in Carillon," says local Realtor Susan Fisher, "You can walk your dog, go to Maymont, or go to the festivals and Carillon concerts." All around the tower is the southern section of Byrd Park, where patrons can walk and exercise in meadows and forest trails or float along in paddle boats around Swan Lake. Sloping east towards the river is Dogwood Dell, famous for its 2,400-seat amphitheater with views of the tower and eclectic lineup of live performances. Just south of the amphitheater is Dell Meadow, a natural learning area where ReForest Richmond, the Virginia Native Plant Society and other volunteer groups are planting native plants and removing invasive species. Mountain bikers can hop on the Dogwood Dell Loop from the kiosk at Pump House Park. The park features an all-granite Gothic Victorian structure built in the late 19th century to supply Richmond with fresh water. Forested trails lead visitors to views of the all-granite canals and an 18th-century archway constructed to celebrate a visit from George Washington.Locals are minutes away from shops in Carytown and Forest Hill
Despite the neighborhood's lack of retailers and eateries, Carytown and Forest Hill businesses are a short distance away. Patrons can shop for vinyl records at Plan Nine or grab toys for the kids from World of Mirth. Mom's Siam is an eclectic Thai restaurant serving classic Thai dishes and cocktails inside a converted brick home along West Cary Street. Residents can drive down the Nickel Bridge and meet up with friends at O'Toole's Restaurant and Pub, where locals can enjoy brews and American staples in a lively dining room decorated with dozens of Irish family crests.Award-winning arts festivals bring vibrancy and creativity to Carillon
Visitors from all over Virginia flock to Carillon for its award-winning art festivals. Tents and vendors pop up under the Carillon Tower every May for Arts in the Park, where patrons can browse and purchase works of artists from all over the country. Since 1956, the Dogwood Dell Amphitheater has hosted the Festival of Arts, which showcases concerts and stage performances ranging from classical dramas and musicals to pop, rock and contemporary musicians.Top notch green ribbon schools in Carillon

The Greater Richmond Transit Company provides transport all over the Richmond metro area. Park Drive is one of the main roadways in the neighborhood, running from the Nickel Bridge in the south to Blanton Avenue and Arthur Ashe Boulevard in the north. Locals are two miles from Carytown and Forest Hill and less than five miles from Downtown Richmond.
