Highly sought-after homes a short walk from a riverside park
Buyers will find Forest Hill, a popular Richmond neighborhood known for its picturesque homes and beautiful greenery just over the scenic James River. The biggest asset of Forest Hill living is the neighborhood's location along the southern banks of the James River. The community is home to Forest Hill Park, a beloved green space full of trails and waterways. "The park really is the best part of living here," says Jeannina Moore, a Richmond native and longtime Forest Hill resident. Moore also previously worked as a real estate agent with Century 21. "I love living within walking distance of the park and going down to Belle Isle in the summer. There are always people out enjoying it. I see folks jogging, biking, walking their dogs, sledding in the winter. It's great."
Nearby Forest Hill Park is home to many local events.
Trails, river access and local events bring the community together
Forest Hill is best known for its namesake green space, Forest Hill Park. This community hallmark features a lake, tennis courts, picnic areas, a children's playground, more walking trails and the historic Stone House. Residents can easily hike down to the scenic James River and to Belle Isle. The park is also home to the popular South of the James Farmers Market on Sunday mornings. "There's always live music during the markets," Moore says. "If you're close enough, you can open your window and listen all morning."

This eye-catching neighborhood primarily features established houses displaying late 19th and early 20th-century styles. Most of the homes in Forest Hill feature well-manicured front yards and spacious backyards perfect for gardens, patios and fire pits. For this reason, the housing market in Forest Hill is quite competitive, and homes sell very quickly. Prices range from $400,000 for smaller cottages and bungalows and up to $750,000 for larger Colonial Revival homes.

Forest Hill is an active, bike-friendly neighborhood with bike lanes along most of Forest Hill Avenue. "The neighborhood is pretty walkable, too," says Moore. "I'm just a 10-minute walk from a bunch of great places to eat and a short drive from the rest of the city." Homes line most of this major road, but two retail areas flank the neighborhood. At the intersection of Forest Hill Avenue and Semmes Avenue, residents can grab a coffee at Crossroads or dance the night away at Thirsty's Bar. At the intersection of Westover Hills Boulevard and Forest Hill Avenue, there's even more dining and some retail. "One of my favorites is The Veil, which also serves great tacos," says Moore. Other favorites include O'Toole's Restaurant & Pub, a city staple since 1966, and Little Nickel, a favorite neighborhood spot for cocktails and coastal cuisines. Just 4 miles west on Forest Hill Avenue, several shopping centers feature grocery stores like Walmart and big box stores like Target. Residents can also use this major road to hit shopping areas like Chesterfield Towne Center and Stony Point Fashion Park.
