Originally an independent city and wealthy Twin Cities suburb, St. Anthony Park became part of St. Paul in the 1880s but has maintained its small-town feel over the past century and a half. “I would say it’s neighborhood-y. It has much of what you need in terms of a hardware store, coffee shop, restaurants and a bank,” says Scott Rehovsky, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker who has sold homes in the neighborhood. “It’s a true neighborhood centered around a commercial district.” The neighborhood can be split into North St. Anthony Park and South St. Anthony Park, each with its own distinct features. The northern half features local shops and restaurants in Tudor-style buildings, while the southern half is more industrial and home to some of the most popular craft breweries in St. Paul. No matter which side homebuyers choose, St. Anthony Park provides a conveniently located lifestyle with plenty of unique flavor from local businesses.
Residents often utilize the Metro blue line to travel from St. Paul to Minneapolis.

A range of local flavors bring St. Anthony Park to life
Como Avenue is the center of commercial activity in St. Anthony Park, with several shops and restaurants offering a range of options. Residents can stop in the Tudor-inspired Milton Square shopping center to browse boutiques, fly fishing gear or get a haircut. Nico’s Tacos is a popular eatery serving authentic Mexican cuisine, known for its birria tacos. Just across the street is Finnish Bistro Coffee & Café. This casual, rustic spot is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is known for its reindeer sausage dishes. Residents can head to the neighborhood’s southern end for a cold drink at the end of the workday or a casual weekend gathering with friends. Lake Monster Brewing Company is a large brewery with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a wide selection of brews. For a more intimate setting, Bang Brewing Company is housed in a grain silo and is considered one of the most underrated breweries in St. Paul. Residents can pick up groceries at Tim & Toms Speedy Market on Como Avenue or head to Fresh Thyme Market just west of the neighborhood. St. Anthony Park is also known for its local events, including the annual Arts Festival. This one-day event takes place on the lawn outside the library and features over 50 artists showcasing their work. The Fourth in the Park is an annual Independence Day celebration with a parade and live music.

Active parks for year-round activity
As its name suggests, St. Anthony Park has plenty of green space for residents to enjoy. Langford Park is popular for several activities, including softball, basketball, tennis and horseshoes. The park has a playground for children to explore, plus ice skating rinks in the winter. The park also has a community center with basketball courts, a game room and event spaces. Residents are also just 2 miles from Como Regional Park, an expansive park with a zoo, botanical garden, a lake and an 18-hole, par-70 golf course.
College Park is a touch of nature in the city.

Charming homes on the high end for St. Paul
Homes in St. Anthony Park include spacious Craftsman, Colonial Revival and Tudor houses and tree-covered lots. Quiet neighborhood streets are completely shaded in the spring and summer, adding natural beauty to the community. Most single-family homes are located in the neighborhood’s northern end, while condos and apartments are to the south. Rehovsky says buyers should expect to pay a little more in St. Anthony Park than the rest of St. Paul. “It tends to be a little bit of a higher-end market. The homes are a little pricier than most other neighborhoods. Generally, if a house is in a good location and priced well, it goes quickly,” he says. Three-bedroom homes can cost between $350,000 and $500,000, while four-bedroom houses are between $400,000 and $800,000.

Advanced education options at local schools
Students might attend St. Anthony Park Elementary School, rated a B-plus by Niche; Murray Middle School, rated a C-plus; and Como Park Senior High School, rated a B-minus. Como Park Senior High serves approximately 1,000 students and offers several extracurricular programs, including Marine Corps JROTC, music and arts. The school offers more AP courses than any other in St. Paul, and students can study in the Academy of Finance, which prepares them for careers in finance and business. St. Anthony Park is also a popular neighborhood for professors as it gives them easy access to The University of Minnesota campuses.

Como Park Senior High School has over 1,000 students in grades 9-12th.

Historic churches in the community
Several significant churches and religious sites in St. Anthony Park cover multiple denominations. Luther Seminary is a seminary affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America that has been operating in the neighborhood since 1869. The seminary is home to Old Muskego Church, which was originally built in Wisconsin and is the oldest Norwegian Lutheran church in the United States. Other churches in the neighborhood include St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, St. Anthony Park United Church of Christ and Centennial United Methodist Church.
Public transit connects residents to both downtowns
Multiple public transit options in the neighborhood make it easy for locals to get around the Twin Cities. Bus routes 3 and 67 each connect residents to downtown St. Paul and downtown Minneapolis. The Green line of the METRO light rail also provides a route between the two downtowns. For residents who prefer to drive, downtown Minneapolis is about 6 miles west on Interstate 94, while downtown St. Paul is about 8 miles east.
