City living with a calm vibe outside of Minneapolis
The small urban neighborhood of Howe sits 4 miles southeast of downtown Minneapolis, between the Mississippi River and Highway 55 in Hennepin County. The area is comprised mostly of single-family homes, but sprinkled throughout are small businesses and restaurants, offering residents the convenience of city life without the downtown pace. Robin Voreis, a Realtor with Keller Williams Integrity Realty who has been selling homes in the area for 14 years, says Howe is slowly growing: “The neighborhood has a quiet, low-key vibe. There’s a lot of vintage stores, restaurants, easy-to-access transit, and it’s close to the river.” House hunters will primarily find roughly 100-year-old bungalows, with prices ranging from the $200,000s to the $700,000s.

Century-old bungalows in craftsman and Tudor styles
Howe's gridded, tree-lined streets hold cozy rows of single-family homes. Like much of Minneapolis, 1920s craftsman and Tudor-style bungalows with stone and stucco details, dominate the architectural landscape. But there are also two-story Foursquares interspersed with a few Dutch colonial styles and a few new builds. “A lot of the houses built in the area were smaller post-war houses,” Voreis says. “The houses get bigger, and the architecture gets more interesting the closer you get to the river,” Voreis continues. Yards are small and usually have detached garages in the back. Prices range from the $200,000s for a three-bedroom bungalow to more than $700,000 for new construction or two-story homes.
