Residents in Wilmington have an excellent public school option right near their doorsteps: Broad Avenue Elementary School.
Two of the school’s signature programs — advanced studies and dual language — boost the school’s reputation for quality education for kindergarten through fifth grade. Having held the Schools for Advanced Studies, or SAS, distinction since 1998, Broad Avenue is considered in the top echelon for gifted school programs. Six teachers on staff specialize in advanced studies, which focuses on students who learn not only at an advanced level but in different and unique ways.
The dual language program creates an environment where students learn in English half of the day while the other half is spent in Spanish instruction. As a schoolwide program that begins in kindergarten, the program’s goal is to ensure bilingualism and biliteracy when their time at Broad Avenue is complete.
About 700 students attend Broad Avenue, also the home of the Bears. The school campus is filled with shady spots, a modern playground and wall murals that celebrate student achievement and honor the school’s values. It’s common in the community for students to have parents who also attended Broad Avenue when they were children, making it a school that serves generation after generation.

My daughter started the preschool program at Broad Ave she has learned so much. The teachers are all so nice and you can really tell they love all the students. Everyone in the front office as well is so nice and your can tell they have pride int their school.
