John Burroughs High School (JBHS) was named after John Burroughs, the American Naturalist who was active in the conservation movement. Located on West Clark Avenue in the City of Burbank, the school is part of the Burbank Unified School District. Built in the 1920s, John Burroughs High was not established as a high school until decades later in 1948. In recent years, the school received a new mascot in addition to a fresh logo and are now called “The Bears”.
This esteemed institution went on to win their first-ever Division 4 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Championship for Baseball. In addition, the girls’ swim team captured their first CIF title and were the top scorers out of the 52 teams competing. John Burroughs also has a visual and performing arts program and was named A California Exemplary Arts Education Program in 2021, in addition to recently receiving several John Raitt Awards for Youth (JRAY) nominations for their production of “Into the Woods”.
Burroughs also boasts students who compete for senior scholarships and students who are being considered for the Broadway Alliance Award, which would take them to New York City to participate in a week-long series of workshops with Broadway professionals. Another achievement for JBHS was the National League of Young Men honoring three of their students with the NLYM Philanthropy Awards for their hours of community service.

Burroughs has many great resources for students in all aspects of student life, from college applications to scholarships to extracurriculars. However, it lacks a bit of cleanliness as the school is kind of gross, but, on the most part, safe.

It was a challenging yet happy experience. I made may friends of which now i consider my siblings, however there aren't many resources in the Burbank unified district, making it hard to enter financial aid programs or even job opportunities programs.

Burroughs is a nice school overall, majority of students are focused on their studies and there are plenty of fun events that create a sense of community within students.
