In keeping with its name, Mountain Vista Elementary School is backed by views of the Topatopa Mountains. Located on 5th Street near Delores Day Park, Mountain Vista is one of four elementary schools in the Fillmore Unified School District, providing instruction for approximately 600 students from transitional kindergarten through fifth grade. The school’s transitional kindergarten program acts as a bridge between preschool and kindergarten to help children develop the fundamental skills they need for school success. Mountain Vista’s 25 teachers and support staff provide instruction that follows California state standards. Mountain Vista School provides special education services with a special day teacher, resource teacher, a speech pathologist, therapist, school psychologist and an occupational therapist. The Mountain Vista Wildcats begin each day by reciting The MV Pledge for Success, which encourages students to show school pride and to pursue the school values of responsibility and respect for others. Throughout the day, teachers and staff work together to nurture students and to develop strategies for academic and social success. The school day doesn’t end when the bell rings, though, as many of the students participate in the school district’s after-school program which offers physical education and academic support.
