St. John Lutheran School is a private, Christian institution located at 3937 Canal St. in the Mid-City neighborhood of New Orleans. Founded in 1852, it is one of the oldest schools in the city and has occupied three different historic buildings since its inception. It’s been at its home on Canal Street since 1927. Serving children from pre-K through eighth grade, the school strives to provide intellectual challenges for its students as well as helping them to become responsible individuals with integrity and social competence. These are designed to help the students grow as people while preparing them for high school, college, and beyond. Recent enrollment was about 130 students. An application with fee and an interview are required for admission. The school has both before- and after-school programs and extracurricular activities ranging from music and piano lessons to volleyball, basketball and track. Summer theater camp is open to first through eighth grade students. St. John Lutheran School emphasizes not only academics but communication, languages and personal accountability to ensure their students have a solid foundation to move forward in the world.
