Oak Knoll Montessori School was severely impacted by the January 2025 wildfires in the Los Angeles area.

This content was created before those fires occurred. We extend our deepest sympathies to those affected, and we will chronicle this community's rebuilding efforts in the future.

Oak Knoll Montessori School is a private school in Northeast Pasadena that is internationally accredited in Montessori principles of including social and emotional education in addition to academics, encouraging students to love learning and leave school with life skills necessary for being independent and problem-solving adults. In accordance with international Montessori standards, Oak Knoll offers four programs: a pre-kindergarten program for children ages 18 months to 3 years, their primary kindergarten program for students ages 3 to 6, elementary program for students ages 6 to 12 and the adolescent program for students ages 12 to 15. The elementary program is split into lower elementary for ages 6 to 9 and upper elementary for ages 9 to 12. All programs emphasize the arts, stewardship of the environment, mathematics and storytelling Class sizes are kept small to ensure each student can get individual attention from educators, with a student body size of about 90 to 100 students. Each program has a heavy emphasis on the "Great Stories" concept popularized by Maria Montessori, who founded the eponymous educational movement. Due to the popularity of the pre-kindergarten and primary programs, they tend to fill fast and often have waitlists; however, Oak Knoll has another campus in nearby Altadena if the Northeast Pasadena campus is not currently accepting new applicants.

We have had a positive experience at OKM. The staff is dedicated and the community is lovely and caring. My only real complaint is the lack of facilities and it's small size- but that can be seen as a positive for some people.

My child did a year in the toddler program here, which was great. Her toddler teacher had a decade of experience and adored the children. Her teacher when she moved up to primary (aka preschool) was inexperienced as an educator (although clearly well trained as a Montessori guide) and had no idea wh...

Let me start by saying that there is no perfect school, and what works for might not work for the next person. In saying that though, I would not recommend this school when you compare it to all the great Montessori/ private schools the area offers. My son went there for pre school and was in the Oa...

We love OKMS. Our children have both had amazing experiences at school. They both love learning and are very happy to go to class every day. The community is warm and caring. Specially for our older, who is in second grade, I can tell they are really learning how to learn, and what a skill that is.

I love my child's Montessori school! The community is super nice, and all the kids help each other, making it a happy place. My child has become so independent and confident, taking charge of learning. The school is great, but I wish they had more resources for Math, Science, and Sports. These subje...
