Since opening its doors in 1983 with 25 students and three teachers in rented classrooms, Lower South Providence’s Community Preparatory School has come a long way. Today, the school serves 125 students from 30 countries and has graduated nearly 1,000 kids. Over 95% of the school's graduates have been accepted into college preparatory high school programs, and 83% are attending or have graduated from college. That is more than double the national average.
Community Prep has grown into a model of inclusive urban education. The school is divided into four learning families: grades 4-5, grade 6, grade 7 and grade 8. Each learning family has a faculty team responsible for teaching the four core disciplines: language arts, math, science and social studies.
Students have the option of participating in school athletic programs. There is also "CP After 3," the after-school program, which features study time, snacks and activities.
Tuition is required for this private school, but more than 85% receive considerable financial aid.
