Established in 1922, O’Melveny Elementary is a public school made up of approximately 200 students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Home of the Superstars, the school services the neighborhoods of San Fernando and Sylmar and sits at 728 Woodworth Street.
With an emphasis on core curriculum classes such as math, English, and science, the school also encourages a balanced and well-rounded approach to education. A featured favorite is the Kids Heart Challenge, which is a challenge designed to raise funds by helping children with heart-related health issues. This program is also designed to teach kids how to take care of their hearts at a young age while offering cardio challenges to help strengthen young hearts.
After school programs are a celebrated feature of the school and boys in first through third grades can participate in the Cub Scouts, while girls in forth though fifth grades can partake in the “Do It Yourself Club”. The school proudly stands for kindness and supports anti-bullying for all children in all grades.
Annually, the school celebrates Dr. Seuss’s birthday which includes dress-up and reading some of Dr. Seuss’s favorite and most celebrated works.
