Westwood High School is part of the Round Rock independent School District. It was founded in 1981 in the Anderson Mill neighborhood of Austin, with a mission focusing on developing “internationally minded individuals who recognize their common humanity and shared global guardianship to create a better and more peaceful world.” With an enrollment of roughly 2,700 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of around 16-to-1, Westwood is a major neighborhood draw. Westwood features the district’s only International Baccalaureate Programme for high school students. For students who choose to enroll in this program, the rigorous and academically challenging program prepares them for higher education and beyond. With an emphasis on the growth of the entire person, the program centers around creativity, action and service. Westwood also features Advanced Placement and honors courses. The school puts an emphasis on global engagement, features flexible and collaborative learning spaces as well as integrated technology. This school also has a large and diverse athletics department as well as music and theater programs.

Westwood High School is a very prestigous school with high regard to academics, the arts, and sports. After attending Westwood I can say that all of this is true. It was a great high school that definitely prepared me well for college.

Westwood High School is a very competitive, yet rewarding school. All the teachers here are great, and the whole staff is very supporting.

In all I had a positive albeit stressful experience. My largest criticism of the school is the rampant grade inflation and cheating, which is large even compared to other schools in the district.
