Los Cerritos
Beautiful homes
From a rare 19th-century Monterrey adobe structure to the house made famous in the film "Ferris Bueller’s Day Off," the neighborhood is home to a range of housing styles. This architectural diversity is especially noticeable on Country Club Drive, which features Tudor-style homes alongside an array of Colonial Revival-style homes, including the Ferris Bueller House. While the shutters are a different color, the house still looks like it did when the movie was filmed in the mid-1980s. The terra cotta roofs of Spanish-style homes also are a common sight, while Craftsman, Prairie and Cape Cod are among the many distinct styles represented throughout the neighborhood. Midcentury designs include traditional ranch-style homes. Most homes sell for $1 million to $2 million, though larger properties in the Virginia Country Club Estates enclave often list for $3 to $4 million.Virginia Country Club
Dating back more than a century to 1909, the invitation-only Virginia Country Club has fewer than 500 members. The club features an 18-hole course designed by renowned golf course architects A.W. Tillinghast and William P. Bell that stretches for more than 6,600 yards, as well as a dining room and bar in the clubhouse. Its grounds are also home to the Rancho Los Cerritos Museum, along with a walking garden that has gone mostly unchanged since it was designed in the 1930s.Public schools in Long Beach
Public schools in the neighborhood are overseen by Long Beach Unified School District. Los Cerritos Elementary has an A grade on Niche, while Hughes Middle School has a B-plus. Long Beach Polytechnic High has a rare A-plus on the site and is known for its standout arts and athletic programs. It may be best known for producing more NFL players than any other high school in the country.Los Cerritos Park
In addition to golf and walking tours of the Rancho Los Cerritos gardens, residents have access to a neighborhood park, hiking trails and bike paths. Los Cerritos Park features tennis courts and lots of open green space that’s used not only for recreation but for community events like a summer concert series. The Dominguez Gap Wetlands are perfect for primitive hiking and nature-watching, while cyclists can travel all the way to the city’s downtown waterfront via the adjacent LA Bike Trail. For those interested in more extensive outdoor activities, the El Dorado Park and Nature Center is just a short drive to the east. This regional park offers expansive green spaces and even fishing lakes, making it a valuable resource for outdoor enthusiasts.
Atlantic Avenue shops and restaurants
The Los Cerritos neighborhood itself is primarily residential, with limited commercial activity within its immediate boundaries. However, residents have convenient access to shopping and dining options in adjacent areas. There are multiple supermarkets within a mile of the neighborhood, including Trader Joe’s, Vons and Aldi, as well as department stores like Marshalls.Dining options near Los Cerritos also reflect a wide range of tastes and preferences. The nearby SteelCraft Long Beach, an outdoor urban eatery made from repurposed shipping containers, hosts a variety of local food vendors offering everything from gourmet burgers and artisanal pizza to Japanese and Thai cuisine. For more traditional dining experiences, restaurants along Atlantic Avenue provide numerous choices, including upscale seafood and classic American diners.
Getting around Long Beach
The neighborhood is bordered by the 405 freeway to the north, providing easy access to the greater Los Angeles area and beyond. Additionally, Long Beach Boulevard and the Los Angeles River Bike Path offer alternatives for local travel and commuting. Public transportation options include several bus routes operated by Long Beach Transit, which connect Los Cerritos to downtown Long Beach and other city districts. Less than 2 miles away is a Metro Rail station in the Wrigley neighborhood, which offers a direct connection to downtown LA.
