Ladera Heights
Well-kept homes from the mid-1900s
The neighborhood’s first homes took shape in the 1940s in what residents call Old Ladera. Newer areas include homes custom-built by prominent architects in the 60s and some modern homes built in the 80s and beyond. You’ll see an array of styles from 1950s Cape Cods to cozy 1960s ranch homes and summery Mission Revival style homes. Larger midcentury homes with multipitch rooflines and bright Craftsman-inspired homes can also be found here. While the housing stock is older, the homes tend to be in good condition. “There are a lot of very well maintained ‘time-capsule homes’ that look exactly as they did in the 1950s and 60s. Most of these homes are owner occupied. People take pride in ownership here,” Araghi says. Home prices range from as low as $650,000 for smaller homes that may need some improvements, while well-maintained and renovated homes can easily top $2 million.Family gatherings at Ladera Park, plus nearby hikes and beaches
The community gathers at Ladera Park, a vibrant 16-acre greenspace with sport courts, picnic areas, athletic fields and an amphitheater. It’s a popular place for residents who want to enjoy the outdoors, and a destination for family reunions and church picnics. For a taste of the surrounding wilderness, head about two miles north on La Cienega Boulevard to Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area. There, you can play disc golf, hike on winding, hillside paths or visit the park’s Martin Luther King Memorial. If you're seeking a cool Pacific breeze, sandy beaches and palm tree-lined boulevards are just a few miles away at Santa Monica State Beach.Shopping along La Cienega Boulevard
Shopping is close to home in Ladera Heights; there's a commercial strip and shopping center at the corner of La Cienega Boulevard and Centinela Avenue where you can fill up your cart at grocery stores like Ralph’s, Amazon Fresh and Smart & Final, and department stores like Ross, Marshalls and Home Depot. While your there, you can swing by Dave’s Hot Chicken for a quick lunch or grab a table at Compari’s Trattoria for a hearty, Italian meal. Head a few miles west and you’ll find additional shopping on Sepulveda Boulevard, including big box and grocery stores like Trader Joe’s, Sprouts Farmers Market and Target.Bilingual programs and athletics enrich local education
Kindergarten through eighth-grade students attend Frank D. Parent TK-8 School, located in the heart of the neighborhood, while upperclassman can attend nearby Inglewood High School. Frank D. Parent Elementary offers a Spanish immersion program for aspiring bilingualists, and Inglewood High’s athletic program has been honored at the Annual Unsung Heroes Leadership Awards in Hollywood. La Tijera Academy of Excellence TK-8 School offers a charter school option here.
