Almaden Meadows
Neighborhood in San Jose, California
Santa Clara County 95120
Midcentury homes in a safe area of south San Jose
Almaden Meadows went up during the late 1960s and '70s and features a bevy of split-level and ranch-style homes. These homes may be older, but their owners have kept them in good shape, upgrading and renovating them to meet 21st century standards. The streets and cul-de-sacs are lined with sidewalks, leafy trees and landscaped lawns that offer plenty of curb appeal. Prices range from $1.8 million to $2.5 million, putting it slightly above the city’s median home price. Safety is also part of the appeal. The neighborhood has a CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4.Community parks and hiking in the Santa Cruz Range mountains
The southern edge of the neighborhood is bordered by Almaden Meadows Park, a hillside hangout that spans 15 acres. It has a playground and walking paths that crisscross its meadows and oak groves. TJ Martin Park sits at the opposite end of the community and bisects the neighborhood east to west. It features a playground, a field and a small outcropping of trees. Hiking, biking and the great outdoors are just minutes away in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Rugged trails extend outward from Almaden Valley into the ridges and valleys that surround Almaden Quicksilver County Park. “It’s great if you’re into hiking, road biking and mountain biking,” Holdt says.Education is a high priority in Almaden Valley

The neighborhood is near the far end of south San Jose, putting it several miles from the nearest expressway and even farther from the nearest major highway. State routes 85 and 17 are both within about 5 miles — both are heavily trafficked roads that take passengers to Silicon Valley and Santa Cruz. “It’s a little further out for those who commute,” Holdt says. Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center, about 6 miles east, is the nearest hospital.Almaden Oaks Plaza has a few restaurants and a grocery store
Almaden Oaks Plaza is a small commercial strip in the neighborhood with a Lucky grocery store and a handful of shops and restaurants. It’s home to Amato Pizzeria, a long-running pizza joint that’s become an area favorite since opening its doors in 2003. The plaza also has Thai, Chinese and Mexican options available, offering something for every palate. Big-box stores and major grocery chains like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s are available about a mile away at Almaden Plaza, the area’s largest shopping center. For everything else, it’s about 10 miles to San Jose’s vibrant downtown district.
