From the top of the hill at Almaden Meadows Park, visitors can see a suburban landscape unfold against a backdrop of redwood-covered mountaintops. The park is surrounded by rows of modest, midcentury-era homes that make up the Almaden Meadows neighborhood, a small community tucked away in the Almaden Valley. It’s known for its highly rated schools, abundant parks and its easy access to outdoor recreation in the Santa Cruz Mountains. “It’s a great place to raise a family. It’s safe, the schools are great and you’re close to so much natural beauty,” says Realtor Dustin Holdt of Sereno Group Los Gatos, a longtime area resident who has worked in real estate for nearly a decade.

Midcentury homes in a safe area of south San Jose
Almaden Meadows went up during the late 1960s and '70s and features a bevy of split-level and ranch-style homes. These homes may be older, but their owners have kept them in good shape, upgrading and renovating them to meet 21st century standards. The streets and cul-de-sacs are lined with sidewalks, leafy trees and landscaped lawns that offer plenty of curb appeal. Prices range from $1.8 million to $2.5 million, putting it slightly above the city’s median home price. Safety is also part of the appeal. The neighborhood has a CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4.
