Established, walkable neighborhood in East San Jose
Brigadoon is a small residential neighborhood in eastern San Jose’s Evergreen district. Unlike other Evergreen communities that cropped up in the early 21st century, Brigadoon is one of the area’s older, more established neighborhoods. “The older homes and neighborhoods in Evergreen were built around the 1970s – as you go farther east up into the hills, you’ll see newer properties,” says Kimberly Leal, a local Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Silicon Valley. “A lot of these older neighborhoods are seeing a transformation as more people decide to buy homes there so they can renovate and update them.” Housing in Brigadoon includes single-family homes and townhouses lining winding, quiet streets and cul-de-sacs. One of the neighborhood’s biggest draws is its central location for daily essentials; residents are within walking distance of parks, schools and shopping centers. Commuters also have easy access to Route 101, a main highway artery next to the neighborhood that travels into downtown San Jose, approximately 7 miles away.
Brigadoon is a quiet area with plenty of retail and restaurant options to choose from.

Townhomes and ranch styles from the 1970s
Brigadoon is home to several townhouse complexes and single-family home communities. West of Brigadoon Way, homebuyers can find midcentury ranch-style residences, some of which have Spanish-inspired and Craftsman architecture. East of Brigadoon Way is a small subdivision characterized by two-story Spanish Revivals with red-tile roofs, earth-tone stucco siding and layered gables. Most single-family properties throughout the neighborhood also have paved driveways and attached garages, although many residents park their cars on the street. These homes range in price from approximately $930,000 to $1.7 million; large Spanish Revivals tend to cost more. Townhouses in Brigadoon mostly date back to the 1970s and can be found in planned residential communities scattered throughout the neighborhood. With stucco facades, flat roofs and square compositions, townhouse units usually cost between $550,000 and $850,000, depending on layout and amenities.

Standout playground features at Brigadoon Park
From sunrise to sunset, residents flock to the neighborhood’s 5.5-acre Brigadoon Park, between John J. Montgomery Elementary and the Silver Creek High School campus. Concrete slides scale the park’s sloping hills and drop into a larger playground area; parkgoers often bring large pieces of cardboard to sit on while they go down the slides. Other amenities in Brigadoon Park include paved walking paths and picnic benches shaded by towering valley oak trees. Families with younger children can head to the Brigadoon Tot Lot for toddler-friendly playground equipment and seating areas.

Catty corner to the neighborhood is a Target department store and the Boiling Crab, a popular Cajun seafood chain where patrons put on their plastic bibs and dig into customizable boiled-in-a-bag meals full of shellfish, sauces, corn and potatoes all mixed together. Next door is Paloma Plaza, an outdoor shopping area with various Vietnamese restaurants, including Pho Tau Bay and HUE Restaurant. Other dining options in the plaza include Thai diners, bubble tea cafes and coffeehouses. “The largest shopping destination closest to Evergreen residents would be the Eastridge Mall, which has been around for a really, really long time and is currently being revamped to hopefully bring in more people,” Leal says.
