Relatively affordable San Jose living in Hillsdale
Hillsdale is a humble piece of South San Jose’s sprawling landscape, where residents are close to the heart of the region while living in a smaller residential community. Local property manager Helen Dunn calls Hillsdale “an interesting part of South San Jose. It looks quiet and small-towny, but it’s close to a lot of cool stuff, and it’s easy to get downtown if you hop on 87. It’s unassuming but it has a lot to offer.” Hillsdale has supermarkets, restaurants, nearby schools, parks and an 18-hole golf course. Homebuyers can choose from mobile home communities or more expensive single-family housing that is still less costly than other parts of San Jose. Locals have access to nearby healthcare and diverse places of worship, as well. “It makes a great entry for people coming to the region,” Dunn says. “Lots of commuters settle down here because it’s more affordable than living in the city. It’s possible to experience Silicon Valley without plunging into debt.”

Hillsdale’s wide range of housing costs
Hillsdale is primarily comprised of residential streets filled with single-family homes and other multi-unit properties. Minimal traditional builds and ranch styles, often with Spanish-inspired stucco facades and tile roofs, densely line the streets and are wrapped with wide sidewalks and palm trees. Properties often come with garages, driveways and personalized front lawns, protected by ornate gates or hand-laid stone walls to add a sense of privacy. These homes tend to start around $700,000 and can climb up to around $1.5 million. Other areas of the neighborhood, such as County Fair Mobile Estates and Caribbee’s Mobile Home Park, provide manufactured homes for more affordable prices, often starting around $100,000. Several apartment rental properties and condos can also be found within Hillsdale.
