Established in 1936, Hillside Elementary has a long history in Montecito Heights as a community school. Nestled on a hillside near the Arroyo Seco Parkway, the staff and students look out over the mountains and the Los Angeles skyline. Hillside educates around 100 students from kindergarten to fifth grade. The school has earned the nickname the Hawk’s Nest and has received a California Gold Ribbon award, which indicates that Hillside students show progress and high achievement in meeting state requirements in testing and other areas. The school also participates in the Leslie and William McMorrow Neighborhood Academic Initiative. Sponsored by the University of Southern California, the multi-year program hosts a Saturday academy and parent workshops. Onsite enrichment programs at Hillside Elementary include an after-school program that provides homework help, meals and fun activities. Hillside’s recreational facilities include an athletic field, lined courts and playgrounds.

We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
