When it opened in 1967 as part of the Irvine Unified School District, University Park Elementary was the first public elementary school in its neighborhood. The school is located on Sandburg Way, adjacent to the University Community Park and the University Park Library, in the heart of the University Park neighborhood.
Serving approximately 500 students in kindergarten through sixth grade, University Park Elementary School has test scores that rank well above the state average in both English and math, and a student-teacher ratio of approximately 23-to-1.
In addition to its core curriculum, University Park Elementary offers students a wide range of district-sponsored programs to assist in their learning and growth. These include after-school enrichment programs, an early intervention reading program for students who need extra assistance, upper elementary hands-on science instruction as well as outdoor science school, a variety of art and music programs, a gifted and talented program for upper elementary students who show exceptional academic promise, the Sheltered English Immersion Program for students who are just beginning to learn English, as well as additional specialized learning programs for students who need additional instruction. University Park Elementary School also serves the community's special education population.
University Park Elementary School’s mission is for faculty and staff to work together to ensure that all students, regardless of their specific circumstances, gain the fundamental knowledge that they need to succeed.
