With dazzling homes and proximity to many gems throughout the city, the Mann neighborhood is a standout in Seattle’s Central District. Located minutes away from scenic Lake Washington and many of Seattle’s other historic neighborhoods, this community features long stretches of residential streets with plenty of outdoor areas peppered throughout. The neighborhood’s history dates back to the 1920s, as it was named after the historic Horace Mann School, which was later renamed to Nova High School. You’ll find many homes that date back to the 20s and earlier, including classic Craftsman homes that are typically priced in the $900,000 range with spacious front porches that are perfect for a morning cup of coffee. Midcentury ramblers often come with enclosed garages, with yards that are usually fenced in for additional privacy. There are also many town houses throughout the neighborhood, many of which come with modern interior features and spacious floor plans.
Living in Seattle’s Central District means residents will have various amenities close by, including the many local shops and eateries in the Madrona neighborhood and proximity to Capitol Hill. But there’s plenty to do inside the community, though, whether you’re enjoying tasty soul food at Communion or trying a limited release beer at Metier Brewing Company. You’ll find cuisine from countries worldwide, including Ethiopian, Caribbean, Mexican and more. Café Selam is a popular spot among people in the area for its no-frills environment and generously portioned Ethiopian fare.
On the southern end of Mann, you’ll find Garfield Playfield, a hub for outdoor activities that includes athletic courts and fields, a tennis court and a playground that children can spend hours on. Children and adults can take swimming classes or just cool off on a hot day at the Medgar Evers Pool located next to the playfield. For a quick outing, there are several pocket parks throughout the neighborhood, including Plum Tree Park and Homer Harris Park. Of course, if you want a beach day, you’re just minutes away from the shores of Lake Washington. There are several beaches along the shoreline that are close by, including Madrona Park and Denny Blaine Park.
Several public schools are in and around the neighborhood, meaning students won’t have to travel far to get to class. Some students will start their education at Madrona Elementary School, a historic school dating back to 1890 that offers its students an art science lab and a learning garden to assist students in their learning. After attending Madrona Elementary, students will then go to Edward Meany Middle School and Garfield High School afterward. Garfield High School has an offering of over 40 clubs and activities for students to take part in, ranging from a Model UN Club, a robotics club and much more.
In addition to being near downtown Seattle, residents can take Interstate 5 to get through the area. Mann offers a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the downtown areas, providing residents with eye-catching homes and a quiet suburban environment to come home to.
