Life by Hellyer County Park
Located 6 miles from downtown San Jose, suburban Hellyer is known for being neighbors with Hellyer County Park, one of the largest public parks in the city. “Hellyer County Park is gorgeous,” says Melissa Maglio, a 20-year San Jose resident and Branch Manager at the Seven Trees Branch Library, “and the nice thing is it connects to Coyote Creek Trail. If you want to take a really long hike or bike ride, you can hit the trail.” Cyclists will also enjoy the park’s velodrome, a paved bicycle track that’s the only velodrome in Northern California. The Seven Trees Branch Library and Seven Trees Community Center offer programs, classes and a place for kids to hang out. U.S. Highway 101 passes to the neighborhood’s east, granting easy access to the rest of Silicon Valley.
Mt Hamilton can be found just minutes to the east.

Bicycle races at the Hellyer Velodrome
The 178-acre Hellyer County Park in the neighborhood’s east is loaded with ways for residents to enjoy the outdoors. Anglers can cast a line at Cottonwood Lake, and dogs can run around off-leash at the dog park. The playground’s multistory play structures, log slide and splash pad are a hit with kids, and the park’s picnic areas are popular for birthday parties. Cyclists can join training classes and compete in races at the Hellyer Velodrome; they can also hop on the 15-mile Coyote Creek Trail, which connects Hellyer County Park to Anderson Lake in Morgan Hill.
At the Seven Trees Community Center to the west, kids can sign up for summer camps and sports leagues, or take crafts and dance classes; the center also has two gyms, a teen center and a recording studio. “People really love our community center,” Maglio says. There are also many houses of worship in multiple faiths, including Mekane Rama Saint Gabriel Cathedral, Family Life Church and the South Bay Afghan Islamic Community Centre.

The median single-family home price is $1 million, 46% less than San Jose’s median of $1.6 million. The library also hosts community events, including June’s Summer Learning Kickoff, where over 100 kids come out for magic shows and a petting zoo.
