Community on the Pacific Coast and surrounded by shopping
Surrounded by the waters of the city’s bay, Belmont Shore is a Long Beach neighborhood with a lot to offer. “It’s a very convenient neighborhood,” says Cynthia Voss, Realtor and broker associate with ReMax, who has been selling Long Beach since 1985. “You’re very accessible to the ocean.” Residents are in the heart of Long Beach restaurants, retail and entertainment. Buyers can choose from homes on the water, with ocean views or a short walk from vibrant nightlife.
Belmont Shore is located directly adjacent to Naples and Belmont Heights.

Shores surrounding the neighborhood
Belmont Shore lives up to its name. Two beaches surround the neighborhood: Rosie’s Dog Beach and Bayshore Beach. Dogs and their owners enjoy sunbathing and splashing in the surf at Rosie’s. Dogs can enjoy games of fetch on the beach while human visitors can take advantage of the volleyball court. The breezy beach is ideal for kitesurfing, and Shoreline Way, a walking and biking trail, carves a path through the sand. The neighborhood also touches Bayshore Beach and Bayshore Playground, where visitors can enjoy the scenic bay views of the island of Naples. It’s a popular launch point for kayaks and paddleboards, and visitors might see Naples gondolas out for a ride.

Second Street Shopping and Dining
Second Street, Belmont Shore’s main dining and entertainment district, runs through the center of the neighborhood. In Voss’ words, “You name it, it’s there.” For meals out, locals have their pick of cuisines, from Italian favorites at L'Antica Pizzeria Da Michele to fresh seafood at Roe Seafood. “There are lots of cool restaurants. Nick’s on 2nd is great,” says Allison Van Wig, Long Beach realtor and broker since the 1990s. Voss endorses Open Sesame and the many coffee shops.
Boutique shopping, like Tilly’s and Urban Eden, also lines Second Street. For essentials, the neighborhood Vons and Rite-Aid have Belmont Shore covered.

Spanish Revival homes close to the beach
While not all houses are on the water, Voss says that the neighborhood’s slight slope provides many with views of the ocean. Even if residents can’t see it, many can hear the waves or smell salt on the breeze. “The neighborhood was originally developed as a beach house community for people visiting from out of town back in the day,” says Voss. Although many of the original homes are no longer standing, the compact layout remains. “The homes are fairly close together, so you tend to get to know your neighbors,” Voss says. Beaches surround the community, so every home is within walking distance of the coast. Spanish Revivals are popular Belmont Shore properties. Buyers can choose from two-bedroom stucco-sided homes starting at $1.2 million to modern villas with pools and upgraded interiors exceeding $2 million.

Belmont Shore events entertain Long Beach
“Belmont Shore is known for its events,” says Van Wig. After checking the neighborhood’s calendar, it’s not hard to see why it’s known as one of the events epicenter of Long Beach. From a holiday parade in December and trick-or-treating on Second Street to a regular walking club and book club, there is always something going on, no matter the season. Classic car enthusiasts enjoy the Belmont Shore Car Show, and throughout the summer, locals participate in Stroll and Savor, a food and shopping event hosted by local businesses.

Residents in walking distance of entertainment and essentials
It’s easy to get around in this neighborhood, no matter the form of transportation. “It’s within walking distance of everything. You get a lot of people who don’t drive, because they can just walk to restaurants and shops. There’s good public transportation. A lot of people get into kayaking,” says Voss. Walk Score and Bike Score give the neighborhood high ratings, thanks to its wide sidewalks and fairly mellow roadways.
The neighborhood is not close to the highway, but Second Street, one of Long Beach’s most well-known shopping and dining corridors, runs through the center of the neighborhood. Long Beach’s city bus is also active in the area. For those traveling farther away, Long Beach Airport is six miles north of the neighborhood.
