Morningside Elementary was established in 1890 and is one of the oldest public schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Located at 576 North Maclay Avenue in San Fernando, the school is home to 400 students ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. Serving the neighborhood of San Fernando, the school has maintained a longstanding reputation for academic excellence and fostering a strong community of active parent participation.
Morningside Elementary holds the unique distinction of national recognition when the school was acknowledged by the former president of Mexico and the Bush Administration in 2001. The school’s reputation spread like wildfire on the heels of this achievement and Morningside became one of the most discussed elementary schools in the area when it opened its doors and welcomed a personal visit by the former First Lady, Laura Bush, who had this to say in praise of the school: “What a beautiful school! The colors are wonderful, and everything looks great. Your faculty and staff have created an oasis of excellence…for these bright young students. I am proud to spotlight your success so that other schools might see and learn from your great example.”
Morningside offers an environment that supports the community-at-large and sponsors a free afterschool program until 6 p.m., along with free tutoring.

My experience has been great overall there are some great teachers here who really care about the students. The staff is friendly and what I like best is how secure it is.

Morningside is a very good school. The staff is helpful and polite. Great teachers. I have not had a great exeprience with the gate keepers but overall is a very good school.

I love this school. Excellent teachers and principal is great. The school is very well coordinated. My kids love it.
