“Merry Beginnings make successful endings” is the motto for A. Brian Merry Elementary School in West Augusta. The school opened in 1965 with nearly 500 students in grades 1 through 7. It quickly outgrew its 17 classrooms and another wing was added in the 1970s. Planned upgrades to the original wing will create an even more inviting environment to encourage student learning.
Merry Elementary School is in the heart of the West Augusta neighborhood, about a half mile from Tutt Middle School. To fulfill its motto, students begin as early as Pre-K learning with Georgia’s premier school readiness programs. From Kindergarten through fifth grade, students’ art and music are emphasized, and students have many opportunities to display their talents through family nights, talent shows and special events. College and Career Days give students an idea of the future possibilities open to them. Faculty at Merry recognize the importance of parents a child’s education, and strive to involve parents in schoolwide activities, workshops and grade level events. The strong educational foundation laid at Merry Elementary School will give students the building blocks they need to continue to grow as they move into to middle school and beyond.
