"North Olmsted is a community that has something for everyone," says Realtor Cindy Kelly with RE/MAX Crossroads, who has over 30 years of experience selling in Greater Cleveland. "It's a very vibrant commercial district." Cleveland residents might know North Olmsted from The Great Northern Mall, an indoor shopping center with over 100 stores and dining options. Surrounding the mall are more retailers and everyday essentials, like grocery stores. But commercial convenience isn’t all North Olmsted has to offer. Locals enjoy flea markets at North Olmsted Community Park and get-togethers at The North Olmsted Recreation Center. About 20-miles from Downtown Cleveland, locals can access the city conveniently using the interstate or by bus. Homes in North Olmsted sit on neat, flat lots. Above-ground powerlines and scattered shady trees overlook sidewalks, making it easy to go for a run or walk the dog. "Most houses were built in the 1960s, '70s and '80s. A lot of subdivisions have HOAs and their own recreation options, too," Kelly adds. Homes typically run in the $100,000 to $300,000 range. Common styles include split-level, Cape Cod and ranch-style properties. North Olmsted Community Park features a playground, baseball diamonds, green space and picnic pavilion. Kelly says, “It’s in a convenient location on Lorain Road, and there’s a lot of activity there, like the Westside Flea.” This free outdoor flea market is a hit come summertime, with over 100 local artisans, live music and food trucks. The North Olmsted Recreation Center is another great spot for the community to get together, hosting events like free yoga every Saturday morning. It distinguishes itself from other Cleveland rec centers by offering two ice rinks and a gymnastics center. And North Olmsted Golf Club’s 9-hole executive course is where locals go to hit the links. Portions of Bradley Woods Reservation and Rocky River Reservation are in North Olmsted. Bradley Woods Reservation sits on a formation of Berea sandstone, which is visible in various areas. Locals can wander past dense red maples and yellow birches in the only swamp forest in Cleveland. Rocky River Reservation has wooden stairs leading to Fort Hill’s scenic overlook and the Rocky River Nature Center, with wildlife exhibits. Much of North Olmsted is centered around the Great Northern Mall, which offers a diverse range of retail stores, dining options and entertainment. Attracting locals and visitors alike, patrons can shop at stores like Dick’s Sporting Goods and Forever 21 and, when they get hungry, grab something to eat from Burger Guys or Charley’s Philly Steaks. Phoenix Theaters plans on opening a cinema in the mall. Locals will find everyday essentials like Walmart, The Home Depot, PetSmart, and Best Buy in the adjacent shopping plaza. Grocery store options in the area include Giant Eagle Supermarket, Aldi, and Target Grocery. To eat out, residents can try Burntwood Tavern, whose exterior mimics a medieval tavern. The restaurant has a changing seasonal menu that sometimes correlates with holidays. Around Mardi Gras, there’s the shrimp po’boy and jambalaya in addition to everyday favorites like an Angus burger. On the weekends, locals head to Fat Heads Brewery and Saloon, where they can relax with a beer and a side of nachos. History lovers will want to check out the Frostville Museum, which captures 19th-century Ohio in seven historic buildings. But there are other reasons to visit – it’s home to the Frostville Farmers Market on Saturday mornings and hosts events from pancake breakfasts to antique car shows. U.S. Interstate 480 cuts through North Olmsted and leads locals about 20-miles east to Downtown Cleveland. To avoid driving, locals can hop on an RTA bus that leads into the city. The Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, International Exposition Center and NASA’s John H. Glenn Research Center are about 6-miles east.
