A large Phoenix housing community has opened in a mostly untouched strip of the city.

Taylor Morrison, one of the nation's largest homebuilders, is holding a grand opening for the first phase of Verdin on Jan. 17. This community spans 473 acres in north Phoenix that Arizona State Trust Land and the Phoenix Sonoran Preserve surround.

The first phase of Verdin consists of 413 homesites across five floor plans, each offering different lifestyle choices. Some options could be best suited for growing families, multigenerational living, flexible space and luxury living.

According to the Scottsdale-based builder's website, Verdin home prices start at $690,900 and go up to more than $1.3 million. Its largest and most expensive floor plan, Capstone, has plans for between three and five bedrooms and up to five-and-a-half bathrooms.

Taylor Morrison built community amenities for Verdin, including swimming and lap pools, pickleball courts, an indoor fitness center, a dog park, a playground, and more.

Future phases call for Taylor Morrison to build up to 1,225 homes in Verdin, according to a community map.

Taylor Morrison remains active elsewhere in Phoenix

The community is located within Phoenix's Desert View neighborhood, where homes carry an average value of $771,086, according to Homes.com.

Elsewhere in Phoenix, Taylor Morrison closed on more than 100 acres in Tolleson in a joint venture with PulteGroup last November. Collectively, the two will build 416 homes for a new community called Shadow Ridge.

Taylor Morrison told Homes.com that it expects to build 194 of those homes, and Pulte is taking the rest. Sales are expected to begin in late 2026.

Taylor Morrison is the nation's eighth-largest homebuilder based on 12,896 total closings in 2024, according to Builder Magazine.
